Visas and Eligibility

Unless you are a US citizen, a US permanent resident or already hold a visa that permits fulltime study, we recommend that you request a SEVIS Form I-20 so that you may apply for the F-1 student visa at a US Embassy or Consulate in your country.  Please note that individuals in tourist status (B1/B2 status or ESTA Visa Waiver Program) may not engage in fulltime study while in the US.

Price includes instruction, tuition, lab fees, class trips, textbooks/printed materials, room (double occupancy), meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner daily), Wellness Center, UM ID card, class activity transportation.

How to Apply


This online application will ask you about your educational history, your parents/guardians and about your plans for visas.  Additionally, you must submit the application materials listed below.  We recommend that you prepare these documents before beginning the application.  If you exit the application and return to the link on the same device, your progress on this application should be saved.  If you have any questions about the application, you may e-mail us at or call us at (305) 284-2752.

    The personal essay should be uploaded in PDF or Microsoft Word Format as part of the online application.  Please include your full name and date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) on the top of the document.  You must write a personal essay of at least 200 words to answer the following:
    Why do you want to participate in the Intensive English Program Summer Scholars Program?  How will your participation help you to achieve your future goals?
    Students who will apply for an F-1 student visa must upload a bank letter documenting a minimum deposit of $6,000.00 (or its equivalent in foreign currency) to demonstrate evidence of financial support for their stay in the US.  The bank letter must be no older than 6 months.  We cannot issue your SEVIS Form I-20 without a valid bank letter.  The bank letter must be uploaded as part of the online application in PDF or photo file format.
    One letter of recommendation from a current or recent teacher is required for admission to the IEP SSP.  Your teacher must e-mail the recommendation directly to  You will be required to provide the name and contact information of the teachers as part of the online application.
    Upon completion of the online application, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable application fee of $100.00 via credit or debit card.
    Once we have received all of the above materials, we will contact you via e-mail to schedule a short Skype interview.  The purpose of the interview is to evaluate your oral skills, both speaking and listening.  We want to ensure that you have an appropriate level of English to be able to fully participate and benefit from the IEP SSP.  No preparation is necessary for the Skype interview.
