Whether you plan to study English for academic, professional, or personal reasons, you will dramatically improve your language skills. But, you will learn far more than just another language. You will gain an understanding of American culture and customs while meeting people from many countries around the world.

Our skills-based curriculum integrates reading, writing, listening, speaking and study skills into one complete program of study. Our program will help you to succeed in academic, professional and social situations. With more than 20 hours of classroom instruction per week, you will be immersed in the English language!

The IEP is more than a school – it's your home away from home. Our faculty and staff are available to help you with any questions you may have. You are sure to make friends from around the world while attending classes and participating in our social activities.

3. Location

The Intensive English Program is located on the beautiful Coral Gables campus at the University of Miami. As an IEP student, you will have access to all of UM's services and facilities. The city of Miami offers unique cultural events, beautiful beaches, major league sports, and a warm climate year around.

4. Dedicated Faculty

Our faculty are truly committed to helping you achieve your English goals! All hold master's degrees and have years of experience teaching English. Many have taught English abroad and have studied other languages. Every faculty member holds office hours each week, in which students may meet with their instructors to discuss individual concerns.

5. Conditional Admission

The University of Miami offers conditional admission to qualified undergraduate students who meet the academic requirements. Students may apply for undergraduate admission and IEP admission simultaneously and meet their English requirement by passing the fifth and final level of the Intensive English Program.

6. Diversity

IEP students come from many different countries on five continents. As an IEP student, you will have the opportunity to learn side-by-side with students from all over the world. Our International Thanksgiving celebration, UM's International Week, and other events are perfect opportunities to share your culture and learn about others.

Our reduced classes allow you many opportunities to participate in meaningful class activities and receive individualized attention and feedback on your progress.

8. Student Life

IEP students can participate in all of the activities offered by the University of Miami and join any of UM's 280 registered student organizations. Additionally, the IEP organizes many social activities each semester, including off campus excursions to places like Universal Orlando, Miami Heat basketball games, beach picnics and more!

9. National Recognition

The Intensive English Program of the University of Miami is a founding member of the UCIEP (University and College Intensive English Programs) and English USA. In addition, the Intensive English Program at the University of Miami is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit English language programs and institutions in the United States.

10. Facilities and Services

All IEP classes and offices are located in Allen Hall. Here you will find classrooms equipped with smart boards, as well as two fully-equipped language laboratories. The language laboratories are open before and after classes so that you can practice your skills with our many computer programs, check your e-mail or work on homework. Our IEP staff is also available to answer any questions you may have, including health, immigration, academic and housing issues.
