Entering the United States
We recommend the following for F-1 international students entering the United States:
- Hand carry (do not check) the following documents:
- Your passport which should be stamped with "F-1" and "D/S" when you pass through passport control upon entering the US.
- Your original SEVIS Form I-20
- Evidence of financial resources (usually the bank letter or scholarship letter which you submitted with your application)
- Evidence of student status, such as your acceptance letter for new students and tuition receipts and transcripts for returning students
- Paper receipt for the SEVIS fee of $350 which you paid at fmjfee.com
- The name and contact information of the Intensive English Program: 305-284-2752
- Your address in the United States, even if only a temporary hotel
- Inform the officer in passport control that you are a new or returning international student at the University of Miami. The immigration official should stamp "F-1 D/S" on your passport, and return all your documents to you.
- After you enter the United States, we recommend you visit cbp.gov/I-94 to obtain your most recent I-94 and verify that your I-94 says F-1 and D/S
- Report to the Intensive English Program on the program start date indicated on your acceptance letter.

Lyft from the airport to the Coral Gables area will usually cost you around $20-35 dollars. It is common practice in the U.S. to tip drivers about 10% of the bill. There are taxi stands outside the arrival terminal at the Miami International Airport. You may also request an Uber or Lyft ride using their apps.
Airport Pick Up Service
